Version: 1.0 — Published January 24, 2014

Behavior

Introduction

Little information. Like other species of Scytalopus, Nariño Tapaculo is furtive, and remains in dense vegetative cover. It forages on and very close to the ground, and rarely flies more than a very short distance.

Territoriality

As is typical of Scytalopus, Nariño Tapaculo reacts strongly to audio playback, and so is presumed to be territorial. There are no published data, however, on territory or home range size, maintenance, or fidelity.

Sexual Behavior

Not described; probably is at least socially monogamous.

Social and interspecific behavior

Nariño Tapaculo usually is solitary, less frequently in pairs. Does not associate with mixed species flocks.

Predation

No reports of predation on Nariño Tapaculo?
