Distribution

Distribution in the Americas

Nariño Tapaculo is resident on the west slope of the Andes of Colombia and Ecuador. The distribution extends north to Risaralda and central Chocó in Colombia (Krabbe and Schulenberg 1997, eBird data), and south in Ecuador to southwestern Cotopaxi (Krabbe and Schulenberg 1997, Ridgely and Greenfield 2001a).

The elevational range of Nariño Tapaculo is from 1250 m to 2000 m (locally, in Carchi, Ecuador, to 2350 m) (Krabbe and Schulenberg 1997).

Distribution outside the Americas

Endemic to the Americas.

Habitat

Nariño Tapaculo occurs in the dense understory of humid montane forest and, less commonly, at forest edges (Krabbe and Schulenberg 1997, Ridgely and Greenfield 2001a).
