Distribution
Distribution in the Americas
Northern Emerald-Toucanet is resident from southern Mexico (north to San Luis Potosí, Veracruz, and Guerrero) south to Cerro Tacarcuna in easternmost Panama and adjacent Colombia (Wetmore 1968: 310, Renjifo et al. 2017). Throughout this region it is occurs in montane regions, with elevational ranges in Mexico of 250-3000 m (Howell and Webb 1995); of 800-3000 m in Costa Rica (Stiles and Skutch 1989); and of 600-2400 m in Panama (Ridgely and Gywnne 1989).

Endemic to the Americas.
Habitat
Northern Emerald-Toucanet inhabits humid montane forest, as well as forest edge, second growth adjacent to forest, plantations, and clearings with scattered trees (Binford 1989, Ridgely and Gwynne 1989, Stiles and Skutch 1989, Howell and Webb 1995).
