Demography and Populations
Introduction
Opal-crowned Tanager is generally assumed to have numbers near the 10,000s (BirdLife International 2014); however, the general trend in the population is overall decreasing. There is not extensive research on the exact population numbers or demography for Opal-crowned Tanager. Parker et al. (1996) categorize this species as "uncommon" and "patchily distributed" relative to other Neotropical birds with a center of abundance in the lower tropical zone. No information is available on age at first breeding, life span, survivorship, parasitism, or population regulation for Opal-crowned Tanager.
