Conservation

Pale-browed Tinamou is fairly common and it appears to be tolerant of a certain level of habitat degradation. Nonetheless, it has a restricted geographic distribution, and the population is suspected to be in decline, due to habitat loss and degradation, and from hunting (BirdLife International 2014). Consequently its IUCN Red List status is assessed as Near Threatened (BirdLife International 2014).

Effects of human activity on populations

Pale-browed Tinamou tolerates some habitat disturbance, but the limits of that tolerance are not documented. Although this tinamou probably experiences some hunting pressure, the greatest threats to this species are habitat loss and degradation, which is occurring in much of its range (especially in Ecuador) through deforestation for farming and grazing by cattle and goats (which degrades the forest understory) (BirdLife International 2014).
