Venezuelan Tyrannulet Zimmerius petersi

Venezuelan Tyrannulet is a small flycatcher endemic to the coastal range of north central Venezuela. It is found in a variety of forested habitats, included open forests. Very little life history information is available on this species, despite it being common. A small tyrant flycatcher with a short, rounded bill, this species resembles Spectacled Tyrannulet (Zimmerius improbus), but these two species are allopatric. does not overlap with that species. It is readily identified by its distinctive wing markings, shared with other species of Zimmerius tyrannulets: most olive-green wing feathers are outlined in yellow (thicker on the leading edge of each feather), but do not form wing bars, and a brightly colored block of color on the secondaries is easily seen in the field. Venezuelan Tyrannulet is most easily detected by call than by sight, as its plaintive, short call is given frequently.
