Distribution
Distribution in the Americas
The east slope of the Cordillera Central in central Perú, as far north as 06°56’S, 20 km south-east of Leimebamba, dpto. San Martín (Mark et al. 2008). Southern limit until recently thought to be c.10°37’S, near Millpo, dpto. Pasco, close to the border with Huánuco, but the Pardusco now is known as far south as c.11°29'S, near Puente Carrizales, dpto. Junín (Witt and Lane in press).
Distribution outside the Americas
Endemic to the Americas and only known from Perú.
Habitat
Elfin forest and scrub at the interface of temperate cloud forest and alpine grassland. Always associated with the treeline ecotone, 3000 - 3800 m elevation. Habitat photographs available in Lowery and Tallman (1976) and Witt and Lane (in press).
