Diet and Foraging

Diet

Pale-vented Pigeon is frugivorous. The stomach of one specimen from Panama was filled with seeds of Solanum, and with a few seeds of Miconia (Wetmore 1968).  Other fruit documented in the diet include "the small black berries" of Conostegia (Skutch 1964) and fruits of Trema (Stiles and Skutch 1989); both of these are melastomes. Also consumes Byrsonima (ffrench 1991). Stomach contents of three specimens from Brazil included grit, grass seeds, and other seeds, the majority of which (88 out of 95) were larger than 7 mm (Schubart et al. 1965).
