Introduction

The breeding season begins in January or February, nests have been found from late March to late May, and juveniles in June (Skutch 1954, Dawn 1963). Cloacal protuberances have been reported on males in April and May (Rangel-Salazar et al. 2007). The nest is a domed structure with a side entrance, and is composed of pine needles lined with moss (Skutch 1954, Dawn 1963, Elliot 1969, Alvarez del Toro 1971). The clutch is 2-4 eggs; the eggs are white with light brown marks (Skutch 1954). Mean egg dimensions 17.1 x 13.3 mm (Skutch 1954). A nest recorded in the Tacaná Volcano Biosphere Reserve had three chick in late May 2011 (unpublished data).
