Diet

Purple-crowned Fairy is primarily nectarivorous. The species visited by this hummingbird have not been investigated in detail, but include flowers of Passiflora, Guzmania, Cavendishia, Erythrina, Aphelendra, and Heliconia (McDade and Kinsman 1980, Stiles and Skutch 1989, Schuchmann 1999). Purple-crowned Fairy also consumes small arthropods (Slud 1964, Remsen et al. 1986, Stiles 1995).
