Conservation
Conservation Status
The IUCN conservation status of the Red-headed Barbet is rated as of Least Concern (BirdLife International 2009). This species has a large distribution. Although the overall population trend is believed to be one of decline, the rate of decline is not thought to be a cause for concern.
Effects of human activity on populations
Little information. The Red-headed Barbet can use second-growth that is adjacent to intact forest, but probably can not maintain a population in the absence of primary forest (Short and Horne 2001).
