Rufous-browed Hemispingus Poospiza rufosuperciliaris

An unmistakable species that is strikingly patterned, and unusually long-legged for its genus, the Rufous-browed Hemispingus has largely slaty upperparts, with black ear-coverts, crown and nape, a tawny supercilium and slightly paler tawny underparts. Considered to be rare and local, and currently categorized as Vulnerable according to IUCN threat criteria, this recently described Peruvian endemic is restricted to the east Andes, where it inhabits dense undergrowth in humid elfin forest near and just below the treeline. Rufous-browed Hemispingus shows a marked preference for extensive thickets of Chusquea bamboo.
