Introduction

The Rufous-backed Treehunter is a large, rare, and highly secretive furnariid found in the understory of humid montane forest along the east slope of the Andes in Peru and Bolivia. This species is seldom seen, due, in part, to its secretive, and largely solitary ecology, and the fact that it rarely vocalises. Consequently, it may be overlooked and more common than observations suggest. Many aspects of its natural history are unknown including whether it merits threatened status.
