Rufous-crowned Antpitta Pittasoma rufopileatum

Conservation

Rufous-crowned Antptitta is a range-restricted species inhabiting an area under continued and increasing threats of deforestation. Suspecting the species be experiencing "moderately rapid population declines", BirdLife International (2013) has afforded it Near Threatened status. As habitat within the range of this species already has experienced considerable disturbance from road building and agriculture, and Rufous-crowned Antpittas seem genuinely rare, Krabbe and Schulenberg (2003) predicted that the species may deserve an upgrade in threat level.

Effects of human activity on populations

No specific threats to Rufous-crowned Antpittas have been documented. Most areas of their known range, however, are currently being logged for lumber or agriculture (Stattersfield et al. 1998, Jahn 2011), activities that almost certainly will have negative effects on this species.
