Priorities for Future Research

Introduction

Rufous-winged Ground-Cuckoo is poorly known; in particular, we know virtually nothing about its breeding behavior, food preferences, and specific habitat requirements. In addition, there is no reliable estimate of global population, density, or population trends. Its reliance on primary forest will continue to place this species at risk as the destruction of Amazonian forest continues, so it is imperative that research to garner sufficient knowledge of its life history be undertaken in order to establish a baseline with which to predict the future of the species. Furthermore, it is of utmost importance that a good understanding of its habitat requirements be acquired so that Rufous-winged Ground-Cuckoo can be properly accommodated should conservation intervention be needed.
