Introduction

The Sapphire-bellied Hummingbird Lepidopyga lilliae is a little known hummingbird found in coastal mangrove forests and occasionally in adjacent dry shrub vegetation in northern Colombia. The Sapphire-bellied Hummingbird is a restricted-range species that is endemic to the Caribbean coast of Colombia. The male is shining green above with underparts that are glittering blue. The tale is blue-black and forked. The bill is nearly straight, with black above, red below, and a black tip.
