Conservation Status
Because of its wide geographic range, the Slaty-backed Nightingale-Thrush does not meet the criteria needed to be classified as 'Vulnerable', and is thus placed in the category of 'Least Concern' (BirdLife International 2012).
Effects of human activity on populations
Clearing of montane forests for coffee cultivation has negatively affected in the vicinity of Volcán Barú, Panama (Ridgely and Gwynne 1989: 352).
