Priorities for Future Research

Although Scissor-tailed Nightjar is very widespread, is common, and occupies open habitats, surprisingly little is known about its life history. It is widely suspected to be partially migratory, leaving the southern portion of its range in the nonbreeding season, but very little is documented regarding its seasonal occurrence in most of its range. There is only very basic information on its nesting biology. There also is little or no information on such topics as territoriality and population density, dispersal, life span and survivorship, and molts for Scissor-tailed Nightjar.
