Conservation

Both in Mexico and at the global level the Short-tailed Nighthawk is considered as Least Concern. This species has a very wide distirbution, and the population trend is believed to be stable (BirdLife International 2012).

Effects of human activity on populations

The Short-tailed Nighthawk probably is little affected by human activity, other than the local effects of deforestation.
