Diet and Foraging

Diet

Known to forage in agricultural fields (Oliveras de Ita and Gómez de Silva 2007). Sierra Madre Sparrows have been observed feeding on moths, flying ants, earthworms, caterpillars, grass seeds, and sown oat seeds (Oliveras de Ita et al. 2001) and the contents of the gizzard of an adult collected in November contained small Coleoptera and the remains of a small spider (Dickerman et al. 1967).
