Conservation status: The Silver-throated Tanager’s has a large range that is estimated to be 74,200 km² (BirdLife International). Because of this, the IUCN red list categorizes the conservations status of this tanager as "Least Concern," and Stotz et al. (1996) states that its conservation priority is "Low." The population does seem to be decreasing, but not rapidly enough to be considered "Vulnerable" (BirdLife International). There is no population size estimate available and no set population trend (BirdLife International).

The tropical countryside is known to have a high potential conservation value but is also home to many human practices such as farming. Even a small increase in tree density near these otherwise open areas would have a positive effect on the Silver-throated Tanager, and many other species forced to live in close proximity to human-disturbed habitat (Sekercioglu et al. 2006).
