SPECIES

Sickle-winged Nightjar Eleothreptus anomalus

Nathaniel Young
Version: 1.0 — Published January 23, 2015

Conservation

The IUCN Red List global conservation status of Sickle-winged Nighthjar is evaluated as Near Threatened (BirdLife International 2014), and it is considered endangered in Brazil (Bernardes et al. 1990, Collar et al. 1992). Previously thought to be very scarce throughout its range (Cleere 1998), although it may be somewhat more widespread and less scarce than previously thought (e.g. Kirwan et al 1999).

Effects of human activity on populations

Sickle-winged Nightjar is presumably under pressure from habitat loss due to agricultural expansion, intensive grazing, anthropogenic fires, wetland drainage, and extensive use of pesticides (BirdLife International 2014).
