Priorities for Future Research
Introduction
Priorities for future research on the Socorro Dove should be focused on factors that will ensure a successful reintroduction such as captive breeding, reproduction, ideal habitat, environmental requirements, and conservation genetics. As a small population with a small distribution, maintaining high genetic variability within this species is very important to its success as a reintroduced population. Prior to reintroduction, feral cats and sheep should be eradicated on Socorro Island. Once the bird is reintroduced, research should focus on its behavior in the wild.
