Distribution in the Americas
Spot-throated Hummingbird is resident in northwestern Peru and a small region in immediately adjacent southern Ecuador. It occurs on the west slope of the Andes from eastern Piura (Abra Porculla) south to southern Ancash (Koepcke 1961); and in the Marañon Valley from northern Cajamarca and Amazonas south at least to La Libertad. There also are recent sight records from extreme southern Ecuador near Zumba in the Río Chinchipe drainage (a tributary of the Río Marañon) in Zamora-Chinchipe (Ridgely and Greenfield 2006, Freile et al. 2013).
On the west slope of the Andes in Peru, Spot-throated Hummingbird usually occurs at 900–1900 m, but locally (southern Lambayeque) is found as low as 200 m (Schulenberg et al. 2010); its elevational range in the Marañon Valley is from 350–2800 m (Schulenberg et al. 2010).
Distribution outside the Americas
Endemic to the Americas.
