Conservation

Striped Sparrow is endemic to Mexico where it is locally common to fairly common (Rising 2011). This species has a large range and is not globally threatened (Rising 2011). According the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, Striped Sparrow is of Least Concern due in part to its very large range throughout Mexico and its relatively large population size with no current trends indicating any decline or future change that would lead to a more threatened outlook (BirdLife International 2015).

Effects of human activity on populations

Although Striped Sparrow is not currently threatened (BirdLife International 2015), its grassland habitat is susceptible to being destroyed or modified by grazing or agriculture (Rising 2011).
