Priorities for Future Research

Introduction

Among members of its genus, Tacarcuna Chlorospingus is one of the least known species, due to its local distribution, and the difficulties of access to the remote locations where it occurs. However, central Panamanian populations are more accessible, representing an opportunity to study in major detail the biology of the species. Future research should focus in poorly documented aspects such as habitat use, demography and life history. These data are necessary in order to understand the resilience of the species to habitat loss and fragmentation, and to obtain reliable estimates of population size and vulnerability. The patchily distributed populations of this species are of conservation concern because they could represent independently evolving lineages, which face particular or similar threats. Given that the global population of Tacarcuna Chlorospingus is declining, actions should be taken to conserve unprotected populations along its range.
