Habitat
Tawny Antpitta seems especially tolerant of habitat disturbance and prone to use open areas, and thus is found in most habitats in the Andes above 2800 m. These include elfin forest, bunch-grass and cushion-plant paramo, paramo with scattered shrubs and trees, and even second-growth hedgerows and garden areas (Krabbe and Schulenberg 2003, Greeney personal observations). Adults often appear to favor lakeshores and swampy areas. Across its range, Tawny Antpitta is found from 2200 m to 4500 m, but usually confined to elevations above 2800 m (Krabbe and Schulenberg 2003).
