Distribution in the Americas

Tepui Tinamou is known only from a few sites in the tepui region of southeastern Venezuela. The original series of specimens were collected on Ptari-tepui and Sororopán-tepui (Zimmer and Phelps 1945); more recently it also was collected on Auyán-tepui (Barrowclough et al. 1997). There also are sight records from the Sierra de Lema (Hilty 2003).

The documented elevational range of Tepui Tinamou is 1350-1800 m (Hilty 2003).

Distribution outside the Americas

Endemic to the Americas.

Tepui Tinamou occurs in humid montane forest and in more open scrubby areas (Barrowclough et al. 1997, Hilty 2003).
