Behavior

Introduction

Territoriality

Thick-billed Parrots are very social. They do not defend feeding no nesting sites; instead, they form sociable feeding flocks and are gregarious even when breeding, nesting at concentrated tree-nests areas. During breeding, mates spend time at their nest cavities, and they will defend its nests by other potential nesting pairs (JCN).

Sexual Behavior

Not observed, and it is not known in what season pairs normally form. Once formed, however, breeding pairs appear to remain intact, since pairs are the basic unit of flocks seen in all seasons. Nevertheless, some pairs seen in the wild are siblings flying together or males from adjacent nests, and it is unreliable to assume that all pairs seen are heterosexual and mature (Snyder et al. 1999)
