Graham Montgomery
Version: 1.0 — Published September 7, 2012

Behavior

Introduction

Usually seen perching and foraging for insects. It conspicuously flicks tail while foraging; the Torrent Tyrannulet is a very active bird and calls frequently.

Territoriality

No quantitative data. Occupy linear territories along stream courses (Stiles and Skutch 1989).

Sexual Behavior

Torrent Tyrannulets are predominantly monogamous (Skutch 1960).

Social and interspecific behavior

Torrent Tyrannulets usually are solitary or in pairs.

Predation

Although little is known about predation on this species, it is likely that the main sources of egg predation are snakes, squirrels, and other small mammals. Adults and juveniles may be preyed upon by aerial predators like hawks and falcons, as well as terrestrial predators such as snakes.
