Diet and Foraging

Diet

Torrent Tyrannulets are insectivorous. They feed mainly on macroinvertebrates, especially flying insects like dragonflies (Odonata), moths (Lepidoptera), mayflies (Ephemeroptera), and caddisflies (Trichoptera). They forage through several methods: aerial hawking, sally-gleaning, and picking, with aerial hawking being the most common (George and Master 2008). Wading and ground pursuit of prey have also been observed (Smith 1971). Foraging most commonly takes place from large, in-stream boulders.
