Diet and Foraging

Diet

Toucan Barbets feed mostly on fruits (62 different species of 20 families) although they also eat insects such as termites (Restrepo 1990). Barbets in suthwestern Colombia, for example, change from a frugivorous diet to one composed of mostly termites in the month of April (Restrepo 1990). Fruits are 45% of the Moracae family, 22% Melastomatacae, and 5% Guttiferae.
