Conservation
Conservation Status
The conservation status of the Tufted Coquette is rated as of Least Concern due to its wide geographic range. The population trend is unknown (Birdlife International 2011). This species is described as uncommon but widespread. As is the case with all hummingbirds (regardless of rarity), the Tufted Coquette is included in Appendix II of CITES.
Effects of human activity on populations
Lophornis ornatus is often sighted at gardens and plantations suggesting its ability to cope with human effects on its habitat (ffrench 1973, Fonaroff 1974, Birdlife International 2011).
