SPECIES

Tumbes Hummingbird Leucippus baeri

Thomas S. Schulenberg and Carolyn W. Sedgwick
Version: 1.0 — Published February 20, 2015

Behavior

Introduction

There is very little information on the behavior of Tumbes Hummingbird. This hummingbird primarily forages in fairly low near the ground, in understory and midstory (Parker et al. 1996).

Territoriality

There are no published data on territorial defense, maintenance, or fidelity, or territory or home range size, for Tumbes Hummingbird.

Sexual Behavior

Little information. Tumbes Hummingbird presumably is polygynous, as are most if not all species of hummingbirds (Schuchmann 1999: 509).

Social and interspecific behavior

Tumbes Hummingbird typically is solitary, as is typical of hummingbirds. Schulenberg and Parker (1981) observed this species "apparently competing" with Amazilia Hummingbird (Amazilia amazilia) at flowers, although it was not mentioned whether one species was dominant over the other.

Predation

No reports of predation on Tumbes Hummingbird?
