Sounds and Vocal Behavior

Vocalizations

The mellifluous churtle of breeding Tumbes Swallow is barely audible, but beautiful to the ear. A sharp chipping of alarm can bring swarms of breeding Tumbes Swallows to dive at potential intruder.

The typical call while foraging is described as "a dry, rising zhreet?" (Lane, in Schulenberg et al. 2007).

For a representative audio recording with sonogram, see audio

Recordings of vocalizations of Tumbes Swallow can be heard at Macaulay Library and at xeno-canto.

Nonvocal Sounds

None reported.
