Introduction
Uniform Antshrike is an interesting species, despite its impressively bland plumage. Belonging to the thamnophilid antbirds, a family most at home in tropical lowlands, this species is one of the few in the family that has been able to adapt to the cool wet montane forests of the Andes. It occurs between 1000 and 2300 m along the west and east slopes of the Colombian and Ecuadorian Andes and locally on the east slope of the Peruvian Andes. Consistent with its simple plumage pattern, the song of this antshrike is a uniform series of 3-5 awhs. In both its song and plumage, Uniform Antshrike is a distinctive and easily identifiable species of the humid montane forest bird community in the Central and Northern Andes.
