Conservation

Wedge-tailed Sabrewing has a large geographic distribution, and, although the population trend has not been quantified, there is no evidence of a serious population decline (BirdLife International 2012). Consequently the IUCN Red List conservation status of Wedge-tailed Sabrewing is Least Concern. In Mexico it is not considered to be a threatened species. No conservation or management programs are known for this species.

Effects of human activity on populations

Human activity has little direct effect on Wedge-tailed Sabrewing, other than the local effects of habitat destruction. This species can tolerate habitat disturbance, however, as long as some forest cover or tall second growth persists.
