Distribution in the Americas

Wedge-tailed Sabrewing occurs from southeastern Mexico south to northern Honduras. It is distributed continuously on the Atlantic slope of Mexico from southern Tamaulipas south to northern Oaxaca (Howell and Webb 1995). There is a separate population in the Yucatan Peninsula, northeastern Chiapas, the Yucatan Peninsula, Belize, northern Guatemala, and northeastern Honduras (Monroe 1968, Land 1970, Howell and Webb 1995). In Mexico it occurs from sea level up to 1400 m (Howell and Webb 1995).

Wedge-tailed Sabrewing primarily is resident, but some of the population may move to lower elevations when not breeding (Binford 1989).
