White-bellied Antpitta is resident in the Andes of Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. In Colombia, it occurs on both slopes of the northern central Andes in Antioquia (and probably south to Nariño), and on both slopes of the eastern Andes of Colombia, from southeastern Santander south to Huila (Hilty and Brown 1986, Salaman et al. 2002). It has also been recorded at Serranía de los Yariguíes, Santander, Colombia (Donegan et al. 2010). It occurs along the east slope of the Andes of Ecuador (Ridgely and Greenfield 2001a) south to extreme northern Peru in Cajamarca, north of the Río Marañón (Parker et al. 1985).
The elevational range of White-bellied Antpitta is 1400-2450 m in Colombia (Hilty and Brown 1986, Salaman et al. 2002), 1400-2200 m in Ecuador (Ridgely and Greenfield 2001a), and 1700-2100 m in Peru (Schulenberg et al. 2007).
Distribution outside the Americas
Endemic to the Americas.
Habitat
The White-bellied Antpitta occurs in the borders of humid montane forest, in advanced second growth, and in forest interior where the undergrowth is dense (such as at the dense tangles at treefalls or landslides in forest interior) (Hilty and Brown 1986, Ridgely and Greenfield 2001b, Krabbe and Schulenberg 2003, Schulenberg et al. 2007).
