Introduction
Formerly, White-bellied Antpitta often was often classified as conspecific with Yellow-breasted Antpitta (Grallaria flavotincta); the two species occur on opposite sides of the Andes, but are similarly plumaged, except for the obvious differences in underparts coloration. Their songs also are similar, but display a clear difference in their pattern of delivery. White-bellied Antpitta is found from northern Colombia to as far south as northernmost Peru, and inhabits humid montane forest at elevations between 1400 and 2300 m. It shows some preference for edges, treefalls and second growth, but is nonetheless still typically difficult to see. Very little has been published concerning the ecology of White-bellied Antpitta.
