Conservation

White-browed Antpitta is uncommon or rare (Willis and Oniki 1981, Parker et al. 1996, Krabbe and Schulenberg 2003) within its range but the global population size has not been quantified. Its IUCN Red List conservation status currently is evaluated as Near Threatened by BirdLife International (2014). It is known from only a few areas that are under formal protection (dos Anjos 2002, Dornelas et al. 2012).

Habitat destruction for agriculture and colonization, and the degradation of understory caused by overgrazing, are the principal threats to habitat within geographic range of White-browed Antpitta. These threats have seriously increased since the 1970s when the Brazilian oil company, Petrobrás, began building roads in the core of its range and opening up new areas to settlers (Stattersfield et al. 1998).
