SPECIES

White-banded Swallow Atticora fasciata

Priorities for Future Research

Introduction

Although the species is locally common, the White-banded Swallow is fairly unknown. Knowledge of this species would benefit from studies not only in basic breeding and parenting biology, but in its interactions with other species. These ecological studies could include studies of interactions with other river-dwelling species of swallow in the Amazon (such as Black-collared Pygochelidon melanoleuca and White-winged Tachycineta albiventer swallows). It also will be interesting (and important) to see how development in the Amazon will affect the White-banded Swallow in light of increased gold mining and highway construction in the area.
