White-chinned Swift is monotypic.
Subspecies
Related Species
Described as Cypseloides cryptus Zimmer 1945; type locality Inca Mine, Río Tavara [Puno], Peru.
There is no phylogenetic survey of Cypseloides. Cypseloides cryptus is extremely similar to Cypseloides storeri (White-fronted Swift) of southwestern Mexico (Navarro et al. 1992). These two taxa may form a superspecies (Chantler 1999), or storeri may represent only a migrant, nonbreeding population of cryptus, distinguishable at best as a subspecies of cryptus (Howell 1992, 1993, Howell and Webb 1995; but see also Peterson and Navarro-Sigüenza 1993).
