White-masked Antbird Pithys castaneus

Thomas S. Schulenberg and Guy M. Kirwan
Version: 1.0 — Published August 3, 2015

Conservation

White-masked Antbird was completely unknown in life until 2001. It is known from only a few localities, but it is reasonable to conclude that the distribution, although not large, extends beyond the few known localities. Consequently the IUCN Red List status for White-masked Antbird is Near Threatened (BirdLife International 2012).

Effects of human activity on populations

Human activity has little short-term direct effect on White-masked Antbird. As is the case for other birds that occupy lowland forest, it is vulnerable to habitat destruction, but the human population within its range is relatively low.
