Priorities for Future Research

Introduction

White-masked Antbird is a remarkable species; although highly distinctive, its validity as a species was doubted by for many years, until its rediscovery in 2001. The species remains poorly known, with most records from a small area near the site of its rediscovery. The main priorities for White-masked Antbird are to survey lowland areas between the Cordillera Campanquís and the Río Pastaza, to confirm that this species indeed is widespread within this region, and to confirm its restriction to varillal forests. It also will be important to learn more about its as age at first breeding, life span and survivorship, dispersal, population regulation, home range size, and population density. There also is no information regarding the reproductive biology of White-masked Antbird.
