Distribution in the Americas
Wine-throated Hummingbird is resident in the highlands from southern Mexico (in Chiapas) south through Guatemala to northern El Salvador and Honduras (Griscom 1932, Friedmann et al. 1950, Monroe 1968, Howell and Webb 1995, Eisermann and Avendaño 2007).
The elevational range of Wine-throated Hummingbird is 1500-3500 m (Howell and Webb 1995).
Distribution outside the Americas
Endemic to the Americas.
Habitat
Wine-throated Hummingbird occurs in humid to semihumid pine-oak forest, evergreen forest, forest edge, shrubby growth adjacent to forest, and clearings with flowers (Howell and Webb 1995, Parker et al. 1996).
