Yellow-browed Toucanet Aulacorhynchus huallagae

Yellow-browed Toucanet is perhaps the most range restricted and least known of all the toucans. This rarely seen species is known to occur only on the east slope of the Andes of northern Peru. Currently Yellow-browed Toucanet is regarded as Endangered, although its geographic range apparently is somewhat more extensive than was known previously, and its conservation status perhaps is not as precarious as previously thought. Yellow-browned Toucanet inhabits humid montane forests, and forages for fruit and seeds. Yellow-browed Toucanet is very similar to Blue-banded Toucanet (Aulacorhynchus coeruleicinctis), which occurs from central Peru to central Bolivia, but Yellow-browed differs most noticeably by the distinct white base to the bill. Presumably the biology of Yellow-browed Toucanet is similar to that of the better known Blue-banded, but Yellow-browed Toucanet is seen so infrequently that little is known about this species.
