Anomalaetus

(Accipitridaesyn. Hieraaetus Ϯ Ayres's Hawk Eagle H. ayresii) Gr. ανωμαλος anōmalos  anomalous  < negative prefix αν- an- ; ομαλος omalos  even; αετος aetos  eagle; "Another bird, Spizaetus ayresi Gurney (Ibis, 1862, p. 149) has until recently been confused either with Nisaetus spilogaster or Lophaetus occipitalis (cf. Finch-Davies, Ibis, 1919, p. 167, Pl. III); but it is obvious that it cannot be referred to any of the genera of small eagles, and I therefore propose to place it in a new genus, ANOMALAETUS, characterised by having the colour markings of the wing and tail quills as in Lophoaetus, but with a shorter and broader crest, with the short tarsus of Micraetus and in the adult plumage broadly marked below with black on a white ground, much after the fashion of N. spilogaster; in the immature plumage the underparts of the body are plain, as in Micraetus. Nisaetus has long legs and no crest." (A. Roberts 1922); "Anomalaetus A. Roberts, 1922, Annals Transvaal Mus., VIII (4), p. 208.  Type, by monotypy, Spizaetus ayresi Gurney, 1862." (JAJ 2020).

(DeVis 1905); "Asturaetus DeVis, 1905, Annals Queensland Museum, no. 6, p. 6.  Type, by monotypy, Asturaetus furcillatus DeVis, 1905 =  Falco berigora Vigors and Horsfield, 1827." (JAJ 2022).

Musei Heineani Ornith., p. 334).  New name for Chettusia Bonaparte, 1841, considered barbarous.  The authors were clearly unaware of the etymology of Bonaparte's generic name (although they would have probably treated its vernacular root as even more barbarous!)" (JAJ 2020).

There is no such foot heretofore described in the whole family. The rest of its structure, as the feeble legs and vast floating wings, agrees with Milvus; and, in sooth, our genus Heteropus should stand inter Aquilinarum et Milvinarum stirpes" (Hodgson 1843); "Mr. Jerdon describes the female, and mentions having examined three specimens of this "curious eagle," which he there classes as Nisäetus ovivorus, but with a double mark of doubt as to the genus; and he has since transmitted specimens of both sexes to the Society's Museum by the title of Ictinäetus ovivorus  ...  its prey chiefly the Pheasants of the region it frequents, as well as their eggs.  ...  In the three specimens I have examined, I found that eggs and nestlings formed its only food."
