Caprornis

(Accipitridae; syn. Necrosyrtes Hooded Vulture N. monachus pileatus) Genus Caprimulgus Linnaeus, 1758, nightjar; ορνις ornis, ορνιθος ornithos  bird (alluding to the middle claw); "In all forms where the pectinated middle claw appears, the greatest voracity has been observed, and may be supposed, if the mode of life be yet unknown, as in the Percnopterus pileatus (subg. caprornis), strix, rostrhamas, ardeidæ, glareola, Cursorius, limosa, melanura, corvus frugilegus, the Caprimulginæ" (Kaup 1850); "Caprornis Kaup, 1850, Contrib. Ornithology (ed. Jardine) for 1849, 6/7, p. 112.  Type, by monotypy, Percnopterus pileatus, i.e. Vultur pileatus Burchell, 1824." (JAJ 2021).
