Cryptamytis

(Maluridae; syn. Amytornis Short-tailed Grasswren A. merrotsyi) Gr. κρυπτος kruptos  hidden; genus Amytis Lesson, 1831, grasswren; "Cryptamytis, subgen. nov.  ...  Type species: Amytornis merrotsyi Mellor, 1913   ...  Etymology: The original generic name Amytis Lesson, 1831 was shown to be preoccupied and so was replaced by Amytornis Stejneger, 1885.  Cryptamytis combines kruptos, (Greek, hidden) and amytis, from the original name (that of a Persian princess).  The name is figuratively 'secret princess' alluding to the bird's secretive habits and long hidden identity" (Christidis et al. 2013); "Cryptamytis Christidis, Rheindt, Boles and Norman, 2013, Australian Zoologist, 36 (4), p. 434.  Type, by original designation, Amytornis merrotsyi Mellor, 1913." (JAJ 2021).
